Catching Up

I’m a little behind on my reviews. Over the past month or so I’ve seen more than my fair share of movies. Some were great; some stunk. Hopefully over the next week or so I will be able to post reviews for most of them.

Solaris

Am I the only one who is confused by the TV ad campaign for George Clooney’s new movie, Solaris? It’s a sci-fi movie, why exactly are all of the TV spots emphasizing the romance involving Clooney’s character and his dead wife? Sure it may turn out to be integral to the plot, but it seems a strange thing to focus on. The largest audience for sci-fi flicks is young males, who aren’t exactly known for their love of romance movies. It seems to me that these TV ads may well alienate the target audience. I guess only time will tell, but my thinking is that this bizarre promotion will backfire.
